Emily loved life. She was known for being loving, happy, positive, intelligent, highly energetic and unapologetically herself. From the age of 4, Emily danced with a natural grace that captivated us. She danced competitively throughout high school and cheered all 4 years on Varsity. Emily loved fitness & wellness. After graduation, she attended UCF and while she made the dance team, she decided to focus on her sorority ZETA & school. She landed her dream job at Cyclebar and taught fitness classes. Emily also loved animals, traveling, fancy dining, fashion and spending time with her family.
At the age of 15, Emily got her hair done and they pointed out a spot on the back of her head under her thick, curly hair. We took her to a local dermatologist who said it was nothing but fortunately took biopsy. 2 weeks later we got the call every parent dreads. "It's cancer. Melanoma." Emily was booked for surgery at a local cancer center where she underwent a 4 hr sx with lymph node removal. She was stage 2B. Everything looked clear and fine. She was followed very closely but never scanned again. 5 years later, Emily called us from school and insisted she had a brain tumor. To reassure her, she came home and we set up Brain MRI. Nothing could have prepared us for this devastating news. The Melanoma had spread to her brain, lung, Pancreas, Liver and muscles. Emily was now Stage 4. In shock but ready to fight, Emily decided to share her story on Instagram. Her real and authentic personality captured the attention of all ages and those that didn't even know her loved her. She truly made a difference and helped many with her story. Throughout her grueling battle, she maintained hope, stayed positive in spite of many times the treatments didn't work and NEVER gave up hope. Emily endured brutal treatments, risky surgeries, brain gamma knife, whole brain radiation, awful side effects from meds and 2 Clinical trials callled TILS, which are now FDA approved. Again, her incredible spirit kept those around her strong. She was the strongest bravest warrior with an extraordinary will to live. Emily NEVER GAVE UP. On July 6th, 2021 at the age of 22, Emily gained her wings. She leaves behind a family who adores, loves and misses her terribly. In her name and in her honor, we will help those who are in the fight, especially pediatric, young adults and teens battling. We hope to make a difference like Emily did.
